In the morning of 22nd November 2008, smiling faces of some top political leaders of Bangladesh and USA came to my notice on the top page of the daily Amader Shomoy. Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia were greeting each other with smiling faces in front of two advisers of the present government. In another picture, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton were also seen talking in smiling faces. Just below them, H. M. Ershad was laughing alone with or without any reason but he seemed very happy.
The pictures on the top page of the news paper is quite significant to me; "The leaders are going to bring peace for Bangladesh and rest of the globe through their smiling faces". It is absolutely my assumtion or expectation. To see the result, we will have to wait. But this is true that they are the persons who can bring peace in Bangladesh and the rest of the world if they want.
We live in a global village and we are dependent to one another. Bangladeshi political leaders have lots to learn from America and the American leaders have also lots to learn from countries like Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar. These countries have lots of similarities in respects of climatic conditions and natural resources which are essential for the developed countries like US, UK, German, France and Japan.
The present climatic hazards all over the world are the excellent examples of learning for us that we cannot live alone rather we need to depend on each other at least for some reasons or resources. There is no alternative than to co-operate one country to another sharing scientific and technological knowledge if we want to explore and utilize the vast natural/mineral resources that the developing countries possess. As a Geo-Physicist and former employee of the world famous U.S. Geological Survey, I have no hesitation to say “There is not a single country (even with the highest muscle power) that possesses all the natural resources they need”.
So this is the high time for the national and international leaders to realize and come to an agreement that we must unite to make the world a peaceful place to live and let others to live utilizing the God gifted natural resources in the balanced and shared process so that the nations with “have” and “have-nots” enjoy the equal benefits of the creation of Almighty Allah.
