Healthy Life for Remote Villagers

Men, women and children from all communities of Bangladesh should enjoy healthy life. In the remote areas of Bangladesh, thousands of people are dying because they are simply too poor to live. It is true that some type of sufferings is avoidable but much of illness is preventable. Technology is now giving the world a new shape in all respects. Scientists, technologists, researcghers and medical doctors have succeeded in preventing many diseases. Unfortunately we lack the political will to accept the reality.
Health inequalities in urban and rural remote areas is a major issue for Bangladesh. But the inequalities can be rmoved using technology in strategic ways. For example, IKRAIL is a village located in one of the remotest areas in Bangladesh. Ikrail is in the centre of  a circular shaped area of about 20~30 sq. kms surrounded by the river Modhumoti. The area varies depending on the season and erosion of the river. There are other six villages on the circumference of the cirle with IKRAIL in the nucleus. The population in the river island is 10000~12000. The density of population is also variable with number of migration due to river erosion. The width of the river is 2-3 kms that varies from summer to rainy season. According to the study of the broadcasting media, IKRAIL is in the most neglected and disadvantaged areas in Bangladesh. There is no touch of modern world. Man, woman or children who ever become seriously ill at night is sure to die without treatment. It is worth mentioning that the birth of a child should be the happiest moment in any mother’s life, but in the village – IKRAIL, the pregnant women are so afraid that they will die in childbirth. As such before the end of the pregnancy they say goodbye to their relatives, well-wishers and friends. This is the picture of inequality and injustice to the remote people. I believe time has come for the government policy makers, academics, business leaders, voluntary organisations, civil society to reshape the country in all sectors to close these gaps within the generation. Scientists and technologists in the country can play an important role in this mission who should no longer remain far from the society and community.  They are the part of us.
