In recent parliament election, one of the election manifestos of BNP-led four party alliance was to utilize the unexplored solid mineral resources like Zircon, Ilmenite, Rutile, Garnet etc. found in the coastal regions as well as in river basins of Bangladesh. Selection of such an important scientific issue by a political alliance is certainly appreciable. According to election result, the BNP-led alliance is the main opposition party and Begum Khaleda Zia is the main leader of opposition. The election result should no way diminish the enthusiasms created among the enthusiastic leaders of four party alliances. We believe the opposition alliance have great roles to play in the present parliament. They can bring the issue in the parliament for open discussion and justify its importance to the nation from various aspects. At the moment very few people know about the existence and importance of the solid minerals. Once the issue is raised in the parliament, thousands of people including new generation will be interested and they will support the innovative works of BNP led alliance. New generation prefers discussions on scientific issues than to political ones in parliament as the new generation is approaching towards the science based technological world. The exploration of solid minerals is based on research and development activities for which a large number of young generation educated in scientific fields in Bangladesh will be the valuable assets as human resources.
Digital Bangladesh is one of the main issues of the Awami League-led 14 party alliance. Before election the phrase “Digital Bangladesh” was not known to people. Now it has exploded all over Bangladesh and beyond. A lot of criticisms and suggestions are coming from all corners of the societies and communities. There is hardly any person left who has not heard “Digital Bangladesh”. Day by day, people’s awareness is developing about digital Bangladesh and people seem happy learning the importance of digital Bangladesh
It is not surprising that the solid minerals; Zircon, Ilmenite, Rutile and Garnet will soon become familiar to most people in the country. We should remember that those are our valuable national resources and we will have to utilize them in the best possible ways for our own interest. Where we will get the experts and the relevant tools to explore those minerals? People will surely ask the question like this one, but the answer is; we are prepared to face any challenge on it. The following example will clear everything;
Jharkhand and Dhanbad are two districts in Bihar, India. The regions are rich in mineral resources including coal and iron ores. Realizing the importance of mineral resources, the Indian government established the Mine Institute in Dhanbad for research and academic purposes. Recently the government has made the iron ores open to public. The villagers are collecting ores from the regions and making their agricultural tools like axe, knife etc.
In addition to their personal use through making domestic and agricultural tools, they sell hundreds of tones of iron ores and send them to different regions of India by trucks and railways. The iron ores have thus become a direct source of income to the local people.
People of the region are happy because they are using their own resources. Thousands of people are now self-employed and many are businessmen due to exploration of their own mineral resources in indigenous, traditional and local processes.
We have lakhs of tones of similar iron ores (Magnetite) in Bangladesh. People are the owners of those minerals that should be exposed to them. Every one in the country is accountable to the community for his activities. As such it is our responsibility to expose things that are still unexplored and this is one of the best ways to involve the citizens in national activities. This is the high time for the political parties to cooperate one another forgetting everything of the past. They should cooperate on national as well as on their party’s interest if they want to come closer to public. The initiative will enable thousands of unemployed to become self employed that might fulfill another election manifesto of the ruling party.
