The term “Digital Bangladesh” has become very important after the new government in power. How to design and who will be the architect of digital Bangladesh? The general mass is raising the questions. There is a great difference between an architect of buildings and that of digital infrastructures. Not the bricks but the digital networks are the main contents of a digital country. Selection of right person for serving the purpose is the most crucial matter. Wrong selection might bring disaster to the nation while they have just started to enjoy the benefits of freedom after a long gap. As senior citizen of the country, it is my expectation that the project director/architect of digital Bangladesh must be an honest patriotic Bangalee with relevant qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate should be a Freedom Fighter. He must have university degrees in relevant subjects: Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Engineering with at least 15 years of experience in similar fields at university, industry or research organizations. Priority should be given to an expert who is closely connected to ICT based international organizations at home and abroad. Founder Vice-Chancellor of Science and Technology universities normally accepts such challenging position for national interests in developing countries. The reason is an efficient VC possesses the capacity of adjustments at all levels. He can raise national scientific needs to the international communities: Commonwealth, UNESCO, DFID, TWAS, IDRC etc, where Bangladesh is a member country and pay annual fees for memberships. He can fight with proper scientific language to get the right and equal share from those organizations as a member. His position (VC) encourages and enables him to speak to the global society without any hesitation. The Vice-Chancellor of any technological university is frequently invited to attend international conferences, seminars and workshops where he gets immense opportunities of describing his personal as well as national scientific development activities. Through participation in such events, he can pick up the best ideas from the world famous talents and experts for implementation in his country. For unique presentations he is awarded Fellowships or Scholarships that bring prestige for the nation. In many events, the invited VCs are also given respects as Session Chairs or Speakers. The international events thus enable them to create big networks of experts of similar fields who help and co-operate one another without any hesitations whenever they need. The project like digital Bangladesh then becomes easier for a developing nation. We believe, our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who dreamt for digital Bangladesh will adopt proper steps in selecting a right person as the architect of digital Bangladesh.
