Tipaimukh has become a very important issue and lots of discussions are going on all over Bangladesh. People should have clear cut ideas on the issue --what Tipaimukh is actually. Why India is going to make this barrage - that has to be clear. What are their main objectives? Neighbours’ suffering cannot be the target for a country like India. As far as I have learnt from different sources, the issue is more technical than political. The politicians particularly from the oppositions are showing much interest on the issue. Fruitful and effective criticisms are well accepted everywhere. I appreciate the initiative of BNP of sending their experts to visit the spot physically who are supposed to give an effective report to the nation. I believe India will take it easy and welcome them to find faults or possible hazards which could be harmful to Bangladesh as well as India.
Considering the issue from scientific point of view, I have no hesitation to mention that India is now technologically so advanced that even the countries like USA, China, Japan and German surrender to India in many respects. For example, those countries consider Bangalore as the global ICT capital. India is advancing in all sectors including ICT and technology based education. Joint efforts of their scientists and politicians are the main strategy of their successes. To get the idea where India is now technologically, one has to attend some technology based events or higher education related events held in Europe, America or any other developed countries. We feel proud of our neighbour’s success. They show much respect to us as their neighbours as well. I am neither a politician nor a businessman, I am an academic as well as industrial scientist. Scientists maintain ethics of cooperation and friendships. Even the scientists of Israel and Palestine maintain excellent friendships among them. They are always trying to find a solution of conflicts created between the two countries. Scientists are beyond religion and borders. They are friends everywhere and every moment.
It is very important to mention here that the whole Europe now seems one village. If we travel by train from east to west or from north to south, it is difficult to identify which country we are traveling through. No body asks for visa or passport. They are having wonderful cooperation in all respects even in transports and transits. Recently, Africa is following the path of Europe. The international organizations are giving tremendous supports to the African countries for their development works in all respects, particularly in transports. The international donors very openly declare that their next target is Africa.
We have lots to learn from Europe and Africa. Our neighbors; India and China are the pride of Asia. Let us enjoy as much benefits as we need making excellent friendships with them. This is the time to become wise, strategic and visionary.
It is expected that the present government as well as the opposition parties will send separate teams composed of real technical experts who will identify the real problems or benefits that Bangladesh will face or enjoy after completion of the Tipaimukh project. The project can be a great source of learning for Bangladesh in respect of huge energy production that we very much in need at the moment. Our experts might pick up the ideas from the Tipaimukh project and find the possibility of similar project some where in Bangladesh. There are many rivers in the country. The cultures, geographic conditions and our food are also same in both the countries. As such, what India can predict or implement, why can’t we? Surely, we will come out successful through the mutual cooperation between the expert teams from government and the opposition. After successful visits to the spots by both the teams, they are expected to submit reports and a joint project proposal similar to Tipaimukh for the greater interest of the nation who want to see smiling faces of both teams that indicates the sign of cooperation and love.
